President’s Pen – Spring 2026
Hello IAEP Members and Friends,
Time flies—and we are officially springing forward fast.
After wrapping up a busy 2025 with strong programming and great networking events, the IAEP Board has been hard at work building out an exciting lineup for 2026. If the first few months of the year are any indication, we’re off to a great start.
In March, we’re hosting a program focused on one of the most talked-about topics across every industry right now—Artificial Intelligence. This event will explore how AI is already intersecting with environmental practice, from data review to report preparation and beyond. Whether you’re already experimenting with AI tools or still wondering what all the buzz is about, this program should offer practical insights and plenty of opportunities to ask the questions you may have been afraid to ask. Looking ahead to April, we’re planning our Spring into Networking event. These casual gatherings are some of the most valuable things IAEP does. They give environmental professionals a chance to reconnect with colleagues, meet new faces in the industry, and build the relationships that make this profession stronger. We’ll be sending out a member survey soon to get your input on location and format—so keep an eye out and let us know what works best for you.
And yes… one of our more creative networking ideas is officially moving forward: Happy Hour with Pups. Environmental professionals love the outdoors, so it only seems fair that our four-legged companions get to join the networking fun once in a while. We’re working on the details for a dog-friendly venue later this spring or early summer.
Behind the scenes, the Board continues working to expand programming, explore new event formats, and strengthen connections within the environmental community across Illinois. Our goal remains the same: provide meaningful professional development while creating opportunities for members to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another.
IAEP exists because of its engaged members, dedicated volunteers, and sponsors who believe in strengthening the environmental profession in Illinois. Thank you for your continued involvement, your ideas, and your willingness to participate—whether that’s attending events, serving on panels, or simply showing up and engaging with your colleagues.
